Cataract Surgery

What is a Cataract:

A cataract is the opacification of the natural crystalline lens we are all born with. Over time, the crystalline lens grows like “rings on a tree” and becomes opaque, causing blurry vision that cannot be corrected with glasses.

Femtosecond Laser assisted Cataract Surgery:

Dr. Camejo has access to the newest technology which includes the Femtosecond Laser at the Laser and Surgery Center of the Palm Beaches . Femtosecond laser allows to perform the most critical steps of cataract surgery with a precision that is superior to manual delivery. This service is not covered by any medical insurance.

Traditional Cataract Surgery: Dr. Camejo offers the option to remove cataract surgery with ultrasound energy called phacoemulsification with or without assistance of the femtosecond laser explained above. Traditional cataract surgery is usually covered by medical insurance.

What is a Cataract Evaluation: When Dr. Larissa Camejo sees you for a cataract evaluation, you will have a thorough eye exam including refraction, and dilated eye exam as well as a thorough interview to explore your wants when it comes to your ideal vision after cataract surgery. Many options are available now-a-days. There are options to how we take the cataract out, such as use of femtosecond laser and there are options when it comes to the intraocular lens type we will place in your eye once we take the cataract out. There are three main types of lens implants: standard, toric lenses to correct astigmatism and multifocal or extended depth of focus lenses to correct presbyopia. The most important aspect to remember is that a superb cataract surgery outcome begins with a complete cataract evaluation and proper reconditioning of ocular surface if needed

Cataract Surgery:

It is one of the most frequently performed surgeries in the US. Dr. Larissa Camejo performs all her surgeries at the Laser and Surgery Center of the Palm Beaches. Surgery is ambulatory and offers fast recovery. Dr. Camejo performs modern small no stitch incision cataract surgery.

In many occasions Dr. Larissa Camejo performs combined surgery which includes cataract and glaucoma surgery done at the same time. This is a consideration for all glaucoma patients and all patients on glaucoma medications. Sometimes, to perform these surgeries separately might be the best approach for a given patient.

Cataract Surgery after Lasik Vision Correction
